Colony- A group of organisms of the same kind living or growing in close association.
Cocoon- The silky envelope spun by the larvae of many insects, as silkworms, serving as a covering while they are in the pupal stage.
Infestation- To inhabit or overrun in numbers or quantities large enough to be harmful, threatening, or obnoxious.
Insecticidal Soap- Insecticidal soaps are specifically formulated to have high insect-killing properties, while being safe for most plant species. Insecticidal soaps kill susceptible insects by washing away the protective coating on the surface of the insect and by disrupting normal membrane functions inside the insect.
Parasites- An organism that lives on or in an organism of another species, known as the host, from the body of which it obtains nutrients.
Peat-Moss- Any moss from which peat may form. Such moss after it has been dried, used chiefly as a mulch or seedbed, for acidification.
Peat- A highly organic material found in marshy or damp regions, composed of partially decayed vegetable matter.
Pests- An undesirable insect or other small animal that harms or destroys garden plants, trees, pets, etc.
Plantscape- A section or expanse of plant/vegetation scenery, usually extensive, that can be seen from a single viewpoint.
Predators- Any organism that exists by preying upon other organisms.
Pruning- To cut off undesired twigs, branches, or roots from the plant.
Pupate- The stage in which the larvae form a cocoon and then undergo metamorphosis. After, the insect emerges as an adult.
Larvae- The newly hatched, earliest stage of any of various animals that undergo metamorphosis, differing markedly in form and appearance from the adult.
Migrate- To pass periodically from one region or climate to another, as certain birds, fishes, animals, and insects.
Vegetation- A general term for the plant life of a region; it refers to the ground cover provided by plants.
Vermiculite- Any of a group of platy minerals, hydrous silicates of aluminum, magnesium, and iron, that expand markedly on being heated: used in the expanded state for heat insulation and as a plant growth medium. |
